Deck installation, replacement & repair
Clarksville Deck Builders is a local business run by a group of partners with a combined 13 years of experience in deck construction and outdoor living projects. Our work covers new decks, full replacement, repairs, resurfacing and wood surface care. We bring the supports, boards, stairs and railing into one plan, with wood, cedar, hardwood, composite and PVC options chosen for the way you use the space.
A deck project starts below the boards. We assess footings, posts, framing and the house connection before deciding what can stay and what needs rebuilding. The layout also needs to fit the back door, furniture and route into the yard. An elevated deck needs a stair run that fits the ground below it, while limited side access can affect removal and deliveries. In Clarksville, the exact property address also establishes whether city or county review applies. Those details belong in the project from the beginning.
Before work begins, we put removal, structural work, materials, stairs, railing and finishing in writing. The scope identifies approval responsibilities, access and cleanup, together with terms for extra work found after removal. We explain the care required by the selected products at handover. Use the project form to describe the deck you have and the changes you want to discuss.
A new deck, a full rebuild and a surface refresh start with different questions. Clarksville Deck Builders brings experience in deck construction and outdoor living projects to that conversation, from the supporting frame to the boards, stairs and railing.
Plan the space around your home and the way you want to use the yard. Compare wood, composite and PVC, then bring the layout, access and finishing details into a clear project scope.
Explore the core services, then read the guide for the work you need.
A new deck creates space for meals, seating and easy access to the yard. The plan sets the footprint, height and stairs, then the supports and framing. Deck boards, railing and trim complete the structure. Wood, composite and PVC can each suit a new build. The estimate should include the full construction scope, permit responsibilities and cleanup so you can compare complete projects.

A full replacement starts with removal of the old deck and a plan for rebuilding. New supports, framing, boards, stairs and railing may all be part of the work. Any retained components need assessment. Replacement also gives you a chance to change the layout, widen a landing or move the stairs while the structure is being rebuilt.

Deck repair addresses a defined problem while keeping the sound parts of the structure. That might mean replacing damaged boards, repairing stairs or fixing a connection. The work should address the cause as well as the visible damage. An assessment establishes whether a targeted repair is suitable or whether more of the deck needs attention.

Resurfacing replaces worn deck boards on a frame that is suitable to keep. It can change the color, texture and care routine without a full rebuild. Switching to composite or PVC may require extra supports or changes to stairs and fastening. The frame is checked before the new surface goes on, with any hidden damage added to the scope.

Custom design works out how the deck fits your home and daily use. Door clearance, furniture space and the route to the yard come first. Railing, borders and other details follow a layout that works. The design scope should state whether it includes a sketch, construction drawings or permit documents, and identify any separate engineering work.

Deck staining renews the finish on suitable wood. Preparation depends on the old coating, surface wear and the product being applied. Steps, railing and trim need to be included where they are part of the job. A sample on the actual deck helps show how repairs and weathering will affect the final color.

A pool deck needs room for people, gates and access to pool equipment. Its supports and surface must suit the setting, with material guidance checked for wet use and care. The plan also addresses barriers and local review. Deck construction should be priced separately from pool installation, electrical work and paving so the responsibilities are clear.

NATURAL CHARACTER
Wood offers a familiar feel and can be refinished as it weathers. Compare the species, grade and finish, then factor cleaning and periodic coating into the ownership cost. Ask how exposed ends and connections will be detailed.
LESS REFINISHING
Composite avoids the regular staining associated with wood. Compare the exact product line, cleaning guidance, surface temperature and warranty terms. Board spacing and the supporting frame must follow the chosen manufacturer’s instructions.
ANOTHER OPTION TO COMPARE
PVC provides another alternative to a wood surface. Review samples, traction, fastening and movement allowances with the contractor. No decking product removes the need for suitable framing, drainage and routine cleaning.
A complete replacement estimate should make the work beneath the surface just as clear as the finish on top.
See the replacement processInclude demolition, debris hauling, protection for the house and yard, and the route crews will use. Narrow gates or limited driveway space can affect how materials and old framing move through the property.
Ask which structural components will be replaced and which, if any, may remain after inspection. The quote should explain how hidden damage is handled if it becomes visible during removal.
Specify the decking product, stair arrangement, railing, fascia and fastening method. A broad line item such as “composite deck” leaves too much room for different assumptions.
Confirm who handles the permit application, required inspections and final debris removal. Make those responsibilities part of the agreement before scheduling demolition.
The layout, access and local review process depend on your property and the work you plan.
Start at the back door. Leave room to open it, reach the stairs and move around furniture without squeezing past a grill. In a compact yard, moving a stair run can change how much usable space remains on the deck and below it.
For a Clarksville property, start with the actual boundary and site layout. A mailing address or neighborhood name does not establish which office reviews the work. Confirm the property’s city or county jurisdiction before drawings and demolition are scheduled.
Walk the route from the street or driveway to the deck. Note gates, overhead obstructions, landscaping and where demolition debris could be staged. Ask the contractor to assess drainage and the condition of the deck’s connection to the house.
Give the exact project address when requesting an estimate. A Clarksville mailing address alone should not be used to assume which municipality will review the work.
That depends on the condition and suitability of the structure. A new surface may be possible over sound framing, but deterioration, movement or a proposed layout change can make a full replacement more appropriate. Have the supports, connections and framing assessed before choosing the scope.
Start with the exact property address and scope. For work inside city limits, Clarksville Building & Codes handles building permits and inspections. Montgomery County has its own review process. Confirm the requirements for your project and who will prepare the application before work begins.
Size alone is not enough to price a replacement. Removal, access, height, footing and framing work, decking, stairs and railing all affect the total. Request an itemized written estimate and compare quotes using the same materials and scope.
No. Composite can reduce recurring refinishing work, but it still needs cleaning and care. Follow the current instructions for the selected product. Compare that care routine with the wood or PVC options you are considering.
The scope, design decisions, material availability, approvals and weather affect the schedule. Ask for the estimated preparation period and on-site construction time separately. A surface refresh and a full rebuild should not be assumed to follow the same timeline.
The form asks for your contact details and ZIP code. Project details are optional, but a description of the current deck, the changes you want and your preferred materials can help with follow-up. Mention access concerns or timing preferences if they affect the project.
Use the inquiry form to describe the work, your preferred materials and the property’s ZIP code. Include the condition of the current deck if you are planning a repair or replacement. Sending an inquiry does not book an appointment; check the delivery message after submitting.
Prepare the scope, compare materials and confirm the local review before work begins.
Separate finish wear, surface replacement and broader structural work.
Check removal, supports, stairs, materials and written responsibilities.
Review the complete installation and care routine for each choice.
